2 Sisters, 200 Chanel bags

"Everything in the kitchen and living room can be left here", the client's personal assistant told us once we were settled into the apartment. We were hired to help pack up the personal possessions of two young sisters who were moving to Tribeca. Often times, we work alongside moving companies to personally pack up client's toiletries, personal effects and clothing. All of the contents of the kitchen, dining and living rooms were to be left in the old apartment. The cleaning staff and building superintendents would take the furniture and other contents of those rooms.

There were a few bags of clothing that The Real Real representative would come to collect the next day. Sloan and I set out to work in one of the bedrooms. There is a wall with approximately 300 pairs of sunglasses. The sunglasses are showcased in a custom made acrylic display case. Most of the sunglasses were to be thrown out. I rescue three pairs from the garbage and put them in my tote bag.

Two white vanities filled with makeup products are lined up on one wall. Charlotte Tilbury Plumpgasm Lip Gloss, Fenty Beauty mascara, Nars Orgasm blush, and Anastasia kohl eye liner fill the lucite makeup bins on top of each desk. Round acrylic containers are full of makeup brushes of every size. Kylie Fragrance, Daisy by Marc Jacobs and Diptyque Olène Eau de Toilette scents are mixing tigether and wafting in the air. We pack up all of the accompanying cotton balls, cotton squares and Q tips. Next, the mirrors get wrapped in tissue paper.

There is a large walk in closet filled with shoes. Lot of cowboy boots, booties, sneakers in every style and color. We sort all of the shoes first by category: boots, flats, loafers, sneakers, sandals, heels. Once all of the pairs are sorted for sister 1, we take great care to wrap each shoe in packing paper and place them gently into the moving boxes. We repeat the entire process for sister 2.

We hear a knock at the front door. The cleaning ladies have arrived to take the kitchen items and, some of the unwanted clothing. Later on, the building super shows up to move out the furniture that he is taking. We do not know any of these people but we are so happy when we see the big smiles on their faces as they take these fantastic items out of the apartment.

Sloan and I head over to another large walk in closet off of the main hallway. Chanel bags and more Chanel bags everywhere you turn. The entire closet is filled with quilted Chanel bags. Most of the bags still have the tags on them. Sloan and I point to our absolute favorite ones -there are so many. I fall in love with a beautiful candy apple red clutch made of the softest lambskin that I have ever felt. Sloan swoons over a bright purple flap bag, price tag, $5,220.00.

We had purchased special acid-free tissue paper expressly for packing up the handbag collection. The movers are not getting their hands on these precious bags. We pack up each bag. The final count is 192 bags. We contemplate hijacking the moving truck on its way to their new residence. How much are 192 Chanel bags worth? A lot!
